Drug Arrest of Verplank teen on Southern State Parkway

On 2/21/12 at 11:15 PM, Trooper Messina stopped a red Chevrolet pick-up truck traveling eastbound on the Southern State Parkway near exit 22(Meadowbrook Parkway), trailing an empty car trailer, which is a violation on the parkway. While approaching the vehicle, Tpr. Messina detected the odor of marihuana emanating from inside the pick-up. The driver, Christopher Brandt, age 19, of Verplank NY, admitted to smoking marihuana earlier in the evening. Mr. Brandt was found to be in possession of 17 hydrocodone pills on his person.
The defendant was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree(A Misd.), Controlled Substance not in Original Container(Violation), and traffic violations. All charges returnable in Nassau County First District Court.
