UTICA, NY (03/08/2010)(readMedia)-- The Bricklayers & Allied Craftworkers, Local Union # 2 (Utica), will conduct a recruitment from March 9, 2010 through February 8, 2011 for three bricklayer, mason, plasterer apprentices and three pointer, caulker, and cleaner apprentices, Acting State Labor Commissioner Colleen C. Gardner announced today.
Applications can be obtained at the Whitestone A of A Veterans, 174 Whitesboro St., Yorkville, NY, from 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. the second Tuesday of each month during the recruitment period (except on holidays, when there will be no recruitment). Mailed applications should be addressed, received, and postmarked no later than February 8, 2011 to: Bricklayers & Allied Craft Workers JAC #2 (Utica), 302 Centre Drive, Albany, New York 12203.
The committee requires that applicants:
* Must be at least 18 years old.
* Must at least have a high school diploma or general equivalency diploma (GED).
* Must be physically able to perform the work required, which includes ability to lift 50-100 lbs.
* Must have reliable transportation to and from job sites and classes of related instruction.
* Must have a valid driver's license to operate company vehicles.
* Must be a six month resident of Local #2's geographic jurisdiction, which includes the counties of: Hamilton, Montgomery, Albany, Schenectady, Rensselaer, Saratoga, Essex, Franklin, Warren, Washington, Clinton, Columbia, Greene, Schoharie, Oneida, Herkimer, Madison, Lewis, Onondaga, Cayuga, Oswego, Jefferson, and St. Lawrence.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability or marital status. Women and minorities are encouraged to submit applications for apprenticeship programs. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
