The Middletown Police Department in conjunction with the New York State Police arrested a City of Middletown resident today in connection with a daytime attempted home invasion robbery.
Santiago Contreras 21, of Harrison St. Middletown, New York is alleged to have knocked on a door of a Sunnyside Avenue residence at approximately 9:18am. Upon being confronted by the resident, he advised that he was an FBI agent and quickly flashed a resident alien card which he indicated was his identification. Contreras also held a sheet of paper which he claimed was a search warrant, authorizing him to search the premises.
The resident became immediately suspicious and requested to see the identification again at which point Contreras left the area.
Contreras was later located on Irwin Avenue and was found to be in possession of plastic gloves and a homemade “shank” knife tucked into his jacket sleeve. Contreras was placed under arrest and transported to Middletown Police Headquarters.
He was later interviewed and was charged with 1 count of Attempted Robbery 1st degree, 1 count of Attempted Burglary 1st degree, 1 count of Criminal Possession of a Weapon 4th degree, 1 count of Criminal Possession of a Forged Instrument 2nd degree and 1 count of Criminal Impersonation 1st degree. Contreras is being held pending arraignment.
