On Saturday, March 6, 2010, at approximately 4:11 pm, a vehicle traveling southbound on I-87 in the area of exit 12, was observed speeding by a trooper who was parked in the median. The trooper was operating laser and could see that the driver was a white male. The vehicle continued to speed as the trooper pulled out of the median and followed at some distance behind. The vehicle swerved from lane to lane and almost struck a guide rail. The vehicle suddenly swerved into the center lane and struck another vehicle being operated by Anne Rhodes, of Glens Falls. The vehicle that was intially observed speeding by the trooper was now being operated by the passenger, a white female, that was identified as Hilary Sawyer, age 20 of Wilton, NY. Investigation revealed that Christopher Shult, age 21 of Saratoga Springs, realized that he had been observed speeding by the trooper, knew his license was suspended and had switched drivers with his passenger, Sawyer, while the vehicle was being operated at a high speed. Schult was arrested for Unlicensed Operation, Speeding, Reckless Driving, and Unsafe Lane Change. Sawyer was arrested for Reckless Driving andUnsafe Lane Change. They were both arrested for not wearing a seat belt and for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana. No injuries were reported from the collision.
