Fatal 2 Vehicle Accident in Campbell
The Steuben County Sheriff's Office reports a fatal two vehicle motor vehicle collision that occurred this afternoon on State Route 415 in the Town of Campbell. Shortly after 2:00 PM, Sheriff Deputies were called to the scene of a motor vehicle and dump truck collision that occurred in front of the Colonial Coach Estates on State Route 415.
Upon arrival Sheriff Deputies assisted the Campbell Fire Department with the extrication of (3) occupants of a four-door motor vehicle which had collided with a dump truck. The dump truck allegedly turned into the path of the oncoming vehicle as it entered Colonial Coach Estates. The operator of the dump truck, Dean A. Austin, age 54, of Forty Dollar Road in Campbell, was delivering a load of dirt to a worksite at the Colonial Coach Estates. Austin, who was traveling northbound on State Route 415, steered the 1997 Chevrolet Dump Truck into the oncoming path of the second motor vehicle, which was traveling southbound on State Route 415.
The driver of the second vehicle, Terri, T. O'Rourke, age 50, of Elmira Heights was unable to avoid a collision with the dump truck. Terri O'Rourke was airlifted to Robert Packard Hospital in Sayre, PA where she underwent emergency surgery for injuries she sustained in the collision. The front seat occupant of the vehicle, Mary F. O'Rourke, age 55, of Horseheads, NY was also airlifted to Robert Packard Hospital in Sayre, PA where she is being treated for injuries she sustained in the collision.
The third occupant of the motor vehicle, Pauline L. Rossi, age 80, of Retirement Drive in Horseheads, was transported from the scene of the collision by ambulance to Corning Hospital where she was pronounced deceased shortly after arrival. Rossi had been the rear seat passenger in the vehicle and she was unrestrained at the time of the collision. Rossi was later sent to the Monroe County Medical Examiner's Office in Rochester by Coroner Al Lewis for autopsy.
