State Police Investigate Fatal Accident – Town of Owego, Tioga County

(Owego, NY – February 6, 2012) The New York State Police at Owego are investigating a fatal car / bicycle accident that occurred on State Route 17, near the Apalachin Exit (Exit 66), in the Town of Owego, Tioga County, New York at approximately 6:06 AM on Monday, February 6, 2012.
Preliminary investigation has revealed that Abdul Wahid, age 42, of Endicott, New York, was riding a bicycle on State Route 17 and was traveling westbound in the eastbound driving lane of the highway. Wahid was subsequently struck by an oncoming vehicle and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The investigation into the accident is continuing.
The State Police were assisted at the scene by members of the Apalachin Fire Department, Apalachin EMS, and the New York State Department of Transportation.
