Bath woman taken to hospital after ice causes vehicle to strike embankment

The Steuben County Sheriffs office reports a one car motor vehicle accident on County Route 13 in the Town of Wheeler that occurred at about 07:30 am. M. Sara Wall of Bath, NY was traveling west on County Route 13 when she lost control of her vehicle due to ice. The vehicle struck an earth embankment causing extensive damage to the vehicle. Ms. Wall was transported to Ira Davenport Memorial Hospital in a friend’s car for observation due to complaint of pain. The Sheriffs Office would like to thank the Prattsburgh Fire Department, Bath Ambulance Services, Rural Metro, and Steuben County Public Works for their assistance.

Driver airlifted after accident in Tuscarora

The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a reported one vehicle collision that occurred this morning around 3:30 AM on County Route 5 in the Town of Tuscarora. Deputy Sheriffs were called the scene of the collision by a local resident after they heard the collision occur outside their residence. Upon arrival at the scene, the operator of the vehicle was found to be unresponsive and partially ejected from the vehicle. Sheriff’s Office Investigators were then called to the scene to assist with the investigation.

The initial investigation conducted reports that William J. Williams, age 46, of Mill Street in Woodhull was operating his Ford F-350 in a westbound direction on County Route 5 near the intersection, of Liberty Pole Road. The investigation of the scene revealed that Williams had drifted into the eastbound lane of travel and struck a bridge guardrail with the front portion of the vehicle. The vehicle then continued to travel westbound in the eastbound lane of travel along the guardrail until it came to rest on the bridge.

Williams was treated at the scene of the collision by Addison Ambulance and Corning Rural Metro ALS. A helicopter landing zone for the Guthrie Helicopter was then established at the intersection of County Route 5 and Liberty Pole Road and Williams was airlifted to Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre for further treatment. Williams continues to be treated at Robert Packard Hospital where he is listed in critical condition with serious head injuries. At this time there is no indication of alcohol involvement and the cause of the collision is being attributed to driver fatigue.

The Sheriffs Office was assisted by Addison Fire Department, Tuscarora Fire Department, Corning Rural Metro Ambulance Service, and Guthrie Air. The investigation into the collision is continuing

Howard man arrested for leaving the scene, DWI

On February 121h, 2012 the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office arrested Jeremy J. Johnson age 34 of East Shore Rd. in the Town of Howard NY. Johnson was arrested following a single vehicle motor vehicle collision that occurred in the early morning hours of 02/12/2012 on Harris Hill Rd. in the Town of Howard. It is alleged that Johnson lost control of his vehicle causing it to leave the roadway and impact a ditch. Johnson left the scene but was located at a nearby residence. Johnson was charged with driving while intoxicated, Operating a motor vehicle with a BAC of more than ,08, and moving from lane unsafely. ‘Johnson was processed and issued citations commanding him to appear in the Town of Howard Court at a later date.

DRUG ARREST IN VIENNA

     On 02/15/12, the State Police in Sylvan Beach arrested Allison E. Lynch, age 17, of South Main St Middleville, NY for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th and UnlawfulPossession of Marihuana.  The State Police also arrested Timothy A. Edick, age 23, of 510 Floyd Ave Rome, NY for Unlawful Possession of Marihuana.  Both subjects were arrested after cocaine and marihuana were found in their vehicle after they were stopped for a loud muffler.  Both subjects were issued appearance tickets and they are to appear in the Town of Vienna court on 02/28/12.

SP Jamestown – Local teens arrested for drug possession

On February 18th, 2012, Troopers JAMIE LEARY and JOSEPH KRYWALSKI pulled over a vehicle on Falconer-Frewsburg Road in Frewsburg for a traffic violation. While speaking to the occupants, the smell of marijuana emanated from inside the vehicle, and all occupants were removed and searched. HARLEE WILTSIE, 18, of Kennedy, was found to be in possession of 10 Adderall pills, a controlled substance for which she does not have a prescription. ANDREW COWAN, 18, of Jamestown, was found to be in possession of two grams of marijuana and was subsequently arrested for Unlawful Possession of Marijuana. COWAN was issued an appearance ticket and released. WILTSIE was arrested for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance 7th Degree, transported to SP Jamestown and processed. WILTSIE was then issued an appearance ticket, and both her and COWAN are to appear in the Town of Carroll Court later in the month.

Four Vehicle Crash in Henrietta

On Sunday around 11:30 PM, deputies responded to a four-vehicle crash on East Henrietta Road under the Brighton Henrietta Town Line Road overpass, in the Town Of Henrietta. East Henrietta Road is a four lane roadway, two lanes for northbound traffic, two lanes for southbound traffic; northbound and southbound lanes are separated by two yellow lines.
 
Two vehicles were stopped along the east side of the roadway on the curb side in the north-bound lane. One vehicle, a Dodge SUV was facing northbound, the second vehicle, a Saturn SUV, was facing southbound, as individuals were attempting to jump start the first vehicle. Both vehicles were unoccupied, all four occupants were outside the vehicles. One of the occupants, 18-year-old Kadilac Mapana was standing between the two vehicles. The other three occupants, 20-year-old Samuel Hagos, 52-year-old Jeanbirego Rubingu and 20-year-old George Rubingu were standing on the sidewalk next to the vehicles.
 
A third vehicle, a Jeep SUV was travelling north bound in the right lane of East Henrietta Rd. The driver (sole occupant) 22-year-old, Amanda Calieri, said she did not see the vehicles in the roadway. Calieri stuck the southern most vehicle, which then struck Kadilac Mapana. This southern most vehicle was then pushed into the vehicle in front of it. Calieri’s vehicle swung into the left passing lane of East Henrietta Rd while flipping onto it’s roof and striking a fourth passing vehicle being driven by 58-year-old, James Tanski.
 
As a result of the initial collision, the three people standing near the cars on the sidewalk were injured. Samuel Hagos, Jeanbirego Rubingu and George Rubingu received minor injuries. Kadilac Mapana, who was standing between the vehicles, appeared to suffer a broken leg.
 
Samuel Hagos, Jeanbirego Rubingu, George Rubingu and Kadilac Mapana were transported to Strong Memorial Hospital for evaluation and treatment.
 
Calieri was transported to Rochester General Hospital for minor injuries
 
The driver of the fourth vehicle was not injured.

Palmyra woman injured in manchester accident

A Palmyra woman(Penney S. Rich, age 27) sustained minor injuries to her arm on Friday February 17, 2012 after the vehicle she was a passenger in flipped over after striking a large rock in front of 73 Field St in the Town of Manchester. The vehicle was operated by Justin L Wheaton, age 20, of Clifton Springs NY, who was uninjured, and occurred while he was attempting to navigate a sharp turn in the roadway. According to Ontario County Sheriffs Deputies the vehicle was traveling at a speed too fast for the roadway and conditions which caused the operator to be unable to make the turn and travel into the Front yard of 73 Field St, hit the rock and flip onto its top. Mrs. Rich was transported to Newark Hospital for her injuries and Mr. Wheaton was cited for unsafe speed. He will appear before the Manchester Town Court at a later date.
